For cross-country skiing from Hallenberg, we recommend the Pastorenwiese cross-country skiing center of the Wunderthausen Ski Club, which is 15 minutes away by car. You can rent cross-country skis in the ski hut of the cross-country skiing center.

Those standing on two boards for the first time can learn with the help of the magic carpet, colorful figures and gates in the Remmeswiese or on the Herrloh. Or glide weightlessly over the snow with a snowkite: courses with the right equipment are offered on site. Freshly groomed trails invite you to glide and skate through the unique landscape of the Winterberg and Hallenberg vacation region. Excellently signposted circular trails and varied routes over a distance of five to twelve kilometers provide unique views and relaxation in nature. Beginners get to know the cross-country skiing experience in special courses and learn everything they need to know to explore the region on the trails. Advanced skiers hone their technique in intensive training sessions.
Clear the way for fast-paced tobogganing
Many toboggan slopes, some with floodlights, provide great fun in the snow for young and old. You can take the toboggan lift or magic carpet to the top and sledge, bobsleigh, glider or snow tube down into the valley. The toboggan slopes around Hallenberg and Winterberg offer sporty adrenaline fans a variety of ways to let off steam. Toboggans can be hired directly on site at many stations. If you get nostalgic as soon as you see a wooden sledge, you should definitely try out our toboggan runs. But you'll be even faster with the racing bob cab. You slide through an ice channel at no less than 130 km/h - the perfect kick for adrenaline junkies.
Bobsleighing has a long tradition around Winterberg in the Sauerland ski region: the first bobsleigh run was built back in 1910. Today, the Veltins-EisArena is one of the fastest and most modern in the world and is the venue for ice-cold races and fierce battles for fractions of a second every year.
Wintertime is hiking time
Those who prefer a more tranquil pace will feel right at home on our premium winter hiking trails. Here you can hike through romantic snow-covered forests and enjoy the relaxing tranquillity of nature. Trudging through the loose powder snow away from the cleared paths with a guide is a unique experience.

By significantly enlarging the storage pond in the Remmeswiese, those responsible for the Winterberg ski lift carousel are optimizing snow reliability in the area. In addition, new, more efficient and energy-saving snow guns are replacing the old models in many places. Due to the proximity to residential buildings and hotels, the operators at Herrloh have invested in particularly quiet snow guns. The Altastenberg ski area is also improving its snow reliability by purchasing new equipment. Further improvements to the ski/snowboard rental system ensure carefree fun on the slopes: to enable ski enthusiasts to select the equipment they need before they arrive, rental companies in Neuastenberg and elsewhere have been using time-saving online reservation systems since this winter.
Optimal conditions in the cross-country skiing and tobogganing paradise
Unforgettable cross-country skiing experiences on perfectly groomed trails: last summer, volunteers renewed the entire trail network. A new storage building for snow groomers and other materials was built at the Bremberg parking lot in the Winterberg cross-country skiing area. Nordic winter sports enthusiasts can also look forward to an innovation at the Pastorenwiese cross-country skiing center: the cross-country skiing club invested in new equipment that makes it possible to track the trails even when there is little snow and offers unlimited cross-country skiing fun.
Away from the cross-country ski trails and pistes, tobogganing and sledging are becoming increasingly popular with guests of all ages. The ski resorts in Winterberg have therefore already expanded their offers for perfect tobogganing fun in recent years. To make winter tobogganing even safer, the start and finish area of the natural toboggan run in Neuastenberg will be widened next winter.
For the daring: the new year-round Astenkick mega zipline
Since August 2018, visitors to Ferienwelt Winterberg have been able to enjoy a new thrill at Kahler Asten. With the ASTENKICK mega zipline, guests hurtle down into the valley at over 70 km/h, either lying or sitting, over a length of 1,000 meters. This makes the ASTENKICK the second longest mega zipline in Europe. The action-packed ride is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and operates all year round - only in the event of a storm, thunderstorm or heavy rain is there a break in the ride for safety reasons. Tickets are available from around 30 euros.
