For cross-country skiing from Hallenberg, we recommend the Pastorenwiese cross-country skiing center of the Wunderthausen Ski Club, which is a 15-minute drive away. Cross-country skis can be rented at the ski hut of the cross-country skiing center.

Or glide weightlessly over the snow with a snow kite: courses with the appropriate equipment are offered on site. Freshly groomed trails invite you to glide and skate through the unique landscape of the Winterberg and Hallenberg holiday region every day. Excellent signposted circular trails and varied routes ranging from five to twelve kilometers in length offer unique views and relaxation in nature. Beginners can learn about cross-country skiing in special courses and find out everything they need to know to explore the region on the trails. Advanced skiers can hone their technique in intensive training sessions.
Make way for fast-paced toboggan rides
Many toboggan runs, some of them floodlit, provide great snow fun for young and old alike. Take the toboggan lift or magic carpet up to the top – then whizz down into the valley on a sledge, bobsleigh, glider, or snow tube. The toboggan runs around Hallenberg and Winterberg offer adrenaline junkies a variety of ways to burn off energy. Sleds can be rented at many stations directly on site. Bobsleighing has a long tradition in the Winterberg ski resort in the Sauerland region: the first bobsleigh track was built back in 1910. Today, the Veltins-EisArena is one of the fastest and most modern in the world and is the venue for ice-cold races and heated battles for fractions of a second every year.

By significantly enlarging the reservoir in Remmeswiese, those responsible for the Winterberg ski lift carousel are optimizing snow reliability in the area. In addition, new, more efficient, and more energy-saving snow guns are replacing the old models in many places. Due to the proximity to residential buildings and hotels, the operators at Herrloh invested in particularly quiet snow cannons. Snow reliability is also being improved in the Altastenberg ski area with the purchase of new equipment. Further improvements to the ski/snowboard rental system ensure carefree fun on the slopes: to enable ski enthusiasts to select the equipment they need before they arrive, rental companies in Neuastenberg, among others, have been using time-saving online reservation systems since this winter.
Optimal conditions in the cross-country skiing and tobogganing paradise
Unforgettable cross-country skiing experiences on perfectly groomed trails: to ensure this, volunteers renovated the entire trail network last summer. A new storage building for snow groomers and other equipment was built at the Bremberg parking lot in the Winterberg cross-country skiing area. Nordic winter sports enthusiasts can also look forward to a new addition at the Pastorenwiese cross-country skiing center: the cross-country skiing club has invested in new equipment that allows the trails to be groomed even when there is little snow, offering unlimited cross-country skiing fun.
Away from the cross-country trails and slopes, tobogganing and sledding are becoming increasingly popular with guests of all ages. To ensure perfect tobogganing fun, the ski resorts in Winterberg have expanded their offerings in recent years. To make winter sledding even safer, the start and finish areas of the natural toboggan run in Neuastenberg will be widened this coming winter.
For the daring: the new year-round Astenkick mega zip line
Since August 2018, visitors to the Winterberg holiday world have been able to enjoy a new thrill at Kahlen Asten. With the ASTENKICK mega zip line, guests can race down into the valley at over 70 km/h, either lying down or sitting up, over a distance of 1,000 meters. This makes the ASTENKICK the second-longest mega zip line in Europe. This action-packed attraction is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and operates year-round – flights are only suspended for safety reasons in the event of storms, thunderstorms, or heavy rain. Tickets are available from around €30.
