History and promise

We always see what you need: In our hotel in Sauerland

For more than 117 years we have invested our energy in one goal: to turn our guests into friends. Friends of the hotel and friends with each other. That's why we consider it our duty to observe our guests closely and see what they really need. If, back in 1898, we had tried to offer what we offer now, we would not have succeeded. The same would have been true if we had offered back then what we offer now.

Thankfully, we have learned since then what our guests really want. Even back in 1898, our hotel was a place to renew energy. Back then we were a post station and hosted guests traveling through. We fed them, had good conversations and lightened their burden on the long journey. Today, more than 115 years later, we have become the destination of the journey. We are a place of refuge and a quiet oasis with space to find new energy.

The Romantik Spa Hotel Diedrich Today

We learned from our guests that this is a necessity of our times. Year for year they seemed to become more restless, unhappy, pressured and unbalanced. As good hosts we had to react. That's why we created a place to meet these new desires and necessities. A place of wellbeing, cultivated enjoyment and holistic happiness.

But we haven't just created a space. We have created a special place with special offerings. A place to fall in love. A place that will leave you with the best memories. How did we manage that? Not with superlatives and gimmicky frills. But rather with insightful listening and attentiveness to what our guests have taught us. We have left everything else out. And that has enabled us to concentrate on the most essential elements.

These are, on the one hand, the proverbial Dietrich hospitality which has been in our genes for generations. On the other hand, a very special concept which we are very proud of. It's a concept of tranquility where you can find inner balance and harmony.

Quality in the fourth generation

Our promise: The light at the end of the tunnel

What does it mean to see the light at the end of the tunnel? Some might associate it with clarifying your own perspective, opening up new points of view and realizing your own internal source of strength. This might mean for others finally being able to enjoy the abundance of nature: forests and meadows give you solid terrain to stand on and feel grounded.
The words "light at the end of the tunnel" inspire us to contemplation - and to listen to our selves and what we really need. What does it mean for you, the light at the end of the tunnel?

We promise you: We will greet you with authentic appreciation and warmth! The attention and the engagement for our guests is embedded in our genes. We are 4th generation hosts. By the way, our open kitchen is the perfect symbol for our friendly manner: go on in... peek into our pots and get to know us.

Our history at a glance: Diedrich in 1898

  • In 1898, Anton & Ida Diedrich realized their dream of building a hotel
  • After the issuance of the official license on June 15, 1898 and "... taking into consideration the police regulations for running a public house, if the same includes a guest horse stall and a cart shed", the public house was opened on New Year's eve in 1898.
  • At the same time, the pair established a rental property in the annex of the hotel for the imperial post office. Even today, the Postkeller and pictures in the Poststube are a witness to the almost 90-year rental history.
  • On June 12, 1899, the first overnight guest, the land surveyor Hüser from Brilon,  was welcomed to one of the nine hotel rooms.
  • In 1899, the new Hotel Diedrich was first advertised with post cards.
  • Erich & Anna-Luise Diedrich took over the hotel in 1939 and guided it through the war years and the period of occupation until Reinhard & Dorothea Diedrich took over in 1980.
  • After consistent investments in quality and the development of the culinary offerings in the 80s and 90s, the family took on the largest challenge ever with a complete reorganization of the hotel in 2007.
  • In 2012 we opened our restaurant, "Antons" – named after our grandfather, Anton.
  • In 2014, we won first place on the TV show "Mein himmlisches Hotel".
  • Benjamin & Leander Diedrich have increasingly taken on more of the management. 4th generation hosts. In the future, the Diedrich will become even more of a tranquil oasis and a place to renew your energy. "The light at the end of the tunnel" expands the feeling of wellbeing.
