Hallenberg beer from here
Finally back: genuine Hallenberg beer after more than 100 years
Since mid-June 2018, Hallenberg has been busy brewing again after more than 100 years. Real Hallenberg beer was already being produced from 1543 to 1914. Back then, it was common for every small town to have its own brewery. And, as befits our town, the Diedrich family was already involved back then: one of our ancestors was one of the last brewers to stand at the kettle himself. After 104 years of abstinence, beer lovers can now once again enjoy genuine Hallenberg beer brewed according to old recipes.

The idea came from Jutta Pinzler and Jörg Schütte from Cologne, who are reviving the tradition. With energetic support, they transformed an old cowshed into a real showpiece brewery. The brewing equipment is located in the former hayloft. Where cows and pigs once stood, beer is now tasted and sold. However, there was one small problem at first: Schütte had no idea about brewing, as he revealed in his welcome speech at the opening. Fortunately, he had a good advisor who knew Peter Mesters from Winterberg, an experienced master brewer. They now use Hallenberger Struht water from the deep well, brewing barley from the surrounding fields, and certain types of hops to make the beer. The beer is therefore a real regional gem from the Sauerland region.

With a planned output of 15,000 liters per year, the future beer supply for our guests is assured. So far, light country beer has been brewed, but a dark cellar beer, a top-fermented wheat beer, and seasonal varieties such as Maibock are also planned. The beer is sold in 20-liter kegs. Those who want a smaller quantity can take home a stylish wooden box containing six liter bottles. This is how beer used to be bottled and then poured into glasses. Those who not only want to drink but also want to see how it's all done can learn more about the brewery on guided tours and beer seminars. A real must for beer lovers in Hallenberg!
